Ascot Stakes (Handicap) 2m4f, 4yo+ ONCE again the Ascot Stakes fell to a jumps trainer, with 5-1 favourite Clondaw Warrior winning for Willie Mullins. Mullins won the race in 2012 with Simenon, and in recent seasons David Pipe, Jonjo O'Neill and Nicky Henderson have all triumphed in the stayers' contest. Winner of the November Handicap at Leopardstown last year, Clondaw Warrior stormed into contention in the final two furlongs and saw off the challenge of 8-1 shot Fun Mac. Victory also completed a double for Ryan Moore following his success on Gleneagles in the St James's Palace Stakes. Mullins said: "I thought Ryan gave him a fantastic ride. None of us gave him any orders - I wouldn't dare give him any orders! "When the second came upsides him he pulled it out again. I think the ground, this good fast ground, makes a difference to him."12 June 2015; CLONDAW WARRIOR, Ryan Moore up, nearside, just manages to overcome Fun Mac, Richard Hughes up, to claim The Ascot Stakes at Ascot. © Peter Mooney, 6, Cumberland Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co.
