Christies

This evening Christies King Street auctions a painting by Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), “Lot and his Daughters” £40.000.000 hammer. Apparently, it is many years since such a fine example of Rubens work has come to market. Probably the last was The Massacre of the Innocents in 2002, which was acquired by the Media Mogul, Lord Thomson. The Massacre of the Innocents is currently in the Art Museum of Ontario in Toronto. The evening was well attended with collectors and Museum Curators, including Dawson W. Carr, Currently The dynamic Curator of the Portland Art Museum. A respected figure on the Intl. Art World Market, having worked for the Getty Foundation. Dawson W Carr is well remembered for having been the Curator of Italian and French paintings at the National Gallery, in the UK.
